This is a complete collection of songs from the handwritten notebook of Hrenchuk from Bukovyna, written around 1909. Every song below includes the full original Ukrainian text with its English translation, presented verse by verse.

The Wilted Rose (Symbol of Lost Love)

Note: One of the most classic symbolic songs in Ukrainian folklore. The wilted rose represents fading love.

Note: Long narrative song about a man riding his gray horse at night searching for his beloved, weighing two choices, and ultimately facing rejection.

It’s not the Seven Dragons regiment —

The godparent makes a sour face at his godparent.

When I heard this,

Note: The cuckoo (зозуля) is a traditional symbol of sorrow and separation in Ukrainian folk poetry.
